Why we built Weird Wonderful Web

A short note from us on what we are trying to do, and what we are trying not to do.

We built Weird Wonderful Web because we missed pressing a button and ending up somewhere we'd never seen before.

There are a lot of "discover the internet" tools, and most of them eventually become recommendation engines, a feed that learns what you like and stops surprising you. We didn't want to build that. We wanted a button that doesn't know who you are, doesn't track what you click, and gives you a randomly chosen page from a hand-curated pool of weird websites, indie games, and unusual gifts.

Things we are not trying to do: - Build a feed. - Build a profile of you. - Train a model on your clicks. - Sell your attention.

Things we are trying to do: - Keep the pool of links interesting and human. - Make every page on the site work in 30 languages. - Stay small enough to be ours, big enough to be useful.

Hit the button. Tell a friend. Submit a site. Welcome.
