A few things to do online that aren't doomscrolling

When the feed is making you feel worse, here are some other places the internet can take you.

Doomscrolling has a powerful gravitational pull. Even when you know it's making you anxious, the next swipe always feels like it might contain the piece of information that makes you feel okay again. It almost never does.

The simplest way out is to spend the same kind of attention on something else. Not "productive" things, those have a different psychological texture and don't really compete with the feed. You need something that is also low-effort, also a little novel, but doesn't reward worry.

Some options that work for me: - A random-website button (one click, one new place) - A short browser game - A long-form article on a topic that has nothing to do with current events - A YouTube video about a craft you'll never take up - A directory of people's personal homepages

The common ingredient is that none of them is engineered to make you angry or scared. That alone is enough to break the loop.
