A small-web starter pack for your next free hour

Four low-pressure ways to spend an hour online without opening an infinite feed.

You do not need a perfect system for using the internet better. You need a few doors that lead somewhere other than the same five apps.

Start with one random website. Give it five minutes and follow one link if it has one. The sideways movement matters more than the destination; a personal site's links page can take you into a completely different corner of the web.

Then play a tiny browser game. Pick something with simple rules and a clear ending. Games are good at resetting attention because they ask you to do one thing instead of monitor everything.

If you want something quieter, read a personal blog or add an RSS feed. One writer you chose is a better reading list than a timeline assembled from every signal you have ever given a platform.

Finish by saving one thing and closing the tab. A bookmark, a note, or a message to a friend is enough. You do not need to turn curiosity into a collection project.

The small web is not an escape from being online. It is a reminder that being online can still mean visiting places, not just refreshing one.
